Tell us about yourself?

I started in the preservation industry in 1991 after a 4 year joinery apprenticeship and a year out in Australia and the East. I started my own business in 1997 and in 2009 I joined Les Meikle at Wise Property Care.

What are your new responsibilities?

Happily, I'll be continuing to offer my expertise to the Hawick and Borders region for all aspects of preservation and the additional services Wise Property Care can offer. Look out for my CPD presentation road shows... 

What qualification do you have?

C.S.S.W - Certified Surveyor of Structural Waterproofing
C.S.R.T - Certified Surveyor of Remedial Treatment

What are your past times and interests?

Horse racing, golf and nice holidays. 

What was your first job?

Apprentice joiner - it is where I learned the roots of my expertise. 

What has been the biggest challenge of your career to date?

Starting and running my own business for 13 years. As any business owner will tell you, it's a never ending challenge. 

What has been your career highlight?

Carrying out £1.2million worth of preservation works in one year. 

What in your opinion is the one thing above all else that sells a property?

Just like the title of one of my favourate tv programs, 'location, location' and having no problems! 

What advice would you offer to those looking to be a damp and timber surveyor?

Always do the job correctly first time. Reputation counts for a lot in the damp and timber industry.

If money was no object, where would you live?

Six months of the year in Hanoi, Vietnam; and six months in Scotland. 

Which celebrity would you most like to work with?

Sarah Michelle Gellar. Obviously, I don't know why!
