Working at Wise Basement Systems, Michael Erskine give an insight towards his job in solving water management problems within basements. He's been in the job for the past three and a half years.

Describe your workplace?

Most of my time is spent in the car. The head office is in Barrhead, but I cover the whole of Scotland.

What is the dress code?

Smart but casual. I wear a tie most days but we are in the process of getting branded shirts with the Wise Logo on them which will keep things nice and simple

What hours do you work?

Should be 8am till 5.30pm but I'm here as long as it takes to get the job done. I enjoy my work and not many people can say that.

Do you have any qualifications?

I trained for this job in the states and that has stood me in good stead for working on basement solutions in Scotland

What was your first job?

Officially it was as an apprentice joiner in Falkirk.

How do you get on with your colleagues?

Really well. I've done the job manually so I know all the pitfalls which helps us work together as a team.

What has been the biggest challenge of your career?

Launching the basement solutions part of the company and making it a success.

What has been your career highlight?

Making basement systems profitable and building that side of the business from scratch.

Any low points?

Sometimes things go wrong. You just need to make sure you are ready to respond to any unforeseen circumstances that arise.

What skills are needed?

Patience and a passion for sales. Technical ability is also a must, but this can be learned, unlike the other skills.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

Still with Wise, running a division with branches all over the country.

What advice would you offer to those looking for a similar career?

Do it! It is a challenging and rewarding career when you see the results.
