More about ciaran mulgrew

Tell us about yourself

I first joined Wise Property Care over a decade ago as a Preservation Technician following in the footsteps of my father and grandfather. After many years gaining practical experience I have made the transition to Surveyor and I am loving every minute.

What are your responsibilities?

My job is to recommend the best solution for any damp, rot and wood boring insect problems throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians, Dumfries and Galloway, and the Scottish Borders in both domestic and commercial premises. I also carry out surveys for the installation of pest proofing solutions.

What qualification do you have?

I have attained CSDB accreditation and I am working towards achieving my CSTDB accreditation within the coming months.

What was your first job?

My first job was with Wise Property Care as a Preservation Technician. I actually started three days before my last exam at high school (I was given the day off to sit it)!

When it comes to property, what is the next big thing?

Ground source heating and the large scale installation of more energy efficient, and affordable, solar panels. As a society we are becoming more active in our interest to become greener, and I think that maximising the potential for our homes to utilise renewable energy will become widespread in the near future.

What one thing above all sells a house?

A house with a clean bill of health in a prime location doesn't stay on the market very long!

What are your past times and interests?

When I'm not at the football I am usually playing five a side football. Previously I played in a band and got to play in venues across the UK, music is still very much a passion of mine. The majority of my free time is spent enjoying time with my family.

what is your career highlight?

Making the transition from technician to surveyor.

What has been the biggest challenge of your career?

I'm sure most people will agree that the challenges of the coronavirus outbreak has been monumentous.

What advice would you offer to those looking to be a specialist surveyor?

I would definitely recommend getting practical experience under your belt first, and prepare to work hard.

If money was no object where would you live?

I'm not greedy, a six bedroom mansion on the outskirts of Edinburgh and a holiday home in Florida would be enough.

Which celebrity would you most like to work with?

Hugh Jackman. Is there nothing that man can't do?
