William Mulgrew - Branch Manager

William Mulgrew, or Wullie as he likes to be known, is also one of the most experienced surveyors and is the manager of both our Edinburgh branch and Hawick & Borders Branch.

A man with generations of family experience, Wullie has followed both his father and older brother into the preservation industry and has gained 30 years experience from the grass roots as a labourer, to technician, to surveyor and now as a senior branch manager. You will struggle to find anyone in Scotland today with the vast knowledge and experience that Wullie has in the industry.

Tell us about yourself?

I am a Senior Manager within our Edinburgh branch and have been involved in the Preservation Industry for over 29 years. My career began as a damp proofing Operative, before stepping up to Surveyor, then Senior Surveyor, Manager and eventually Senior Manager. I have achieved the industry qualification (CSRT) on the way. During this time there has been little, if any, type of project involving timber decay or dampness that I have not encountered.

What are your new responsibilities?

My day to day role is to ensure the smooth running of Wise’s Edinburgh and Hawick branches, between these branches William looks after East, Mid and West Lothian, Edinburgh, The borders and Dumfries and Galloway, I have a dedication to quality and good customer care, I also carry out a large number of CPD seminars for Surveyors, Solicitors, Architects and other professionals giving them an insight into the world of damp, wood rot and wood boring insects.

What qualification do you have?

As mentioned above I am CSRT Qualified, I have also obtained “IOSH” managing safety certificate, completed Phill Hewit’s course on Waterproofing, achieved a certificate from the Institute of Leadership & Management for “Dynamic Leadership” and also First Aid trained.  

When it comes to property, what is the next big thing?

Green roofs and more energy efficient buildings.

What was your first job?

Preservation technician.

What one thing above all sells a house?

What are your past times and interests?

I enjoy watching football and my obsession with History means I take part in World War Two Re-enactments.

What has been the biggest challenge of your career?

The recent recession was a real test, however we have come out the other side leaner and fitter.

What has been your career highlight?

Being the top surveyor and manager in the same year.

If money was no object where would you live?

Florida in the winter, Scotland in the summer.
