Welcome to another Rotter Blog - Has everyone been enjoying Euro 2016?
I have seen a few po-faced pundits describe it as a bit dull, but I think there have been some great games so far (the 6-goal thriller between Hungary and Portugal being a particular highlight).
One set of people who certainly will be enjoying the tournament are football managers looking for a freebie. At the start of the tournament there were a fair few players who had finished their contracts and are now eligable to sign for a new club for nothing.
I also love a bargain, so let’s have a peek at some fabby freebies.
The amazing Michael McGovern
Perhaps the most talked about free agent has been Northern Ireland keeper Michael McGovern. The super stopper has pulled off a string of saves to keep NI in the tournament right up until they met Gareth Bale’s Wales on Saturday. McGovern was at Hamilton Accies up until recently but English Premier League side Southampton are rumoured to be interested in picking him up after his gallant displays. He would certainly be the bargain of the close season.
Other fantastic free agents
Welsh goal hero Hal Robson-Kanu is another free agent at Euro 2016, surely his pace and vision will be appealing for another club? Let’s not forget plucky Albania too, who despite exiting early, put in some great defensive displays led by the commanding Arlind Ajeti (available on a Bosman this summer after playing for Italian side Frosinone).
And even though Manchester Utd look set to swoop in, it is worth remembering the fact that one of the best forwards in the world Zlatan Ibrahimovic was technically a free agent at this tournament after ending his contract with French giants PSG.
Until Next time,
