Wise Property Care: 2013 in review

One of the busiest years yet

2013 has been one of the busiest for Wise Property Care, and one of the most interesting for the entire property industry for quite some time.

This was a year where we saw new schemes such as Help to Buy introduced into an ever fluctuating property market, we had a heat wave and flash floods in the summer, Wise Property Care got sporty and in December the future of property surveys was announced!

Want to find out more about all of the above and more? Then read on...

Quarter 1: January to March

In early January we reported that Glasgow house prices were rising while Edinburgh house sales were on the up. This was the first of many housing market stories that caught our eye.

The weather was pretty miserable the start of 2013, not that you would expect anything else from Scotland in winter, but it did prompt Wise Property Care to produce an infographic asking the question - Is Scotland Getting Wetter?

Wise Property Care were featured in the Glasgow papers in March when our MD Les Meikle helped Merry-Go-Round, a Glasgow based children’s clothes shop, with some entrepreneurship mentoring.

Quarter 2: April to June

In April, Livingstong RFC rugby club made it to the finals of the RBS Sheild; what does this have to do with property care? Well, Wise Property Care sponsored them, thats what. Sadly, our lads lost out to Marr RFC in the final, but we were proud of Livingston and wish them all the best for 2014.

In June, the Help to Buy scheme was launched in England and Wales. This scheme offered a government loan of up to 20% of the value of a home for first time buyers who could provide a 5% deposit themselves. The scheme has been popular, but has come under fire from some critics who felt it could spark a property price bubble.

Quarter 3: July to September

While Scotland didn’t have “Help to Buy” yet, it was about to have its “Right to Buy” taken away. The Scottish government announced that council house tenants right to buy their homes was to be completely phased out by 2017.

There were three weeks of glorious sunshine across Scotland in July, but they were bookended by some flash floods. This obviously kept us busy in damp proofing and basement systems work, but we are well aware that most people are not so fond of damp summers.

In September, Wise Property Care continued their dedication to local sports by sponsoring squad polo shirts for Perth amateur football side St Johns FC.

Quarter 4: October to December

In early October, the Help to Buy scheme that allowed a number of first time buyers onto the property ladder was finally launched in Scotland.

There was a big birthday at Wise Property Care as our MD Les Meikle turned 60. Les may have wanted to keep this quiet but the head office staff made a big fuss. Catch his reaction on video in this blog post.

Les also ended up appearing on Sky News in November along with our Glasgow branch manager Peter Ross.

In December Wise Property Care managed to help out another local sports club, this time it was Fair City Amateur Boxing Club, based at the Scone Aerodrome in Perthshire. We sorted the club out with some new kit bags and wish them well in 2014.

A special launch in 2014

With the year coming to close, Wise Property Care offered a sneak peek at our upcoming launch. We believe this launch represents the future of property surveys and are extremely excited about 2014. Take a look for yourself:
