Condensation on walls is usually due to air ventilation problems in a property. Without adequate ventilation, moisture in the air will settle on absorbent surfaces like wallpaper and paint. This will often lead to black mould growth and damage to fixtures and fittings.

TIPS FOR FIXING CONDENSATION ON WALLS

Like most condensation problems, condensation on walls can usually be avoided with a few simple lifestyle changes. We would recommend the following:

  • Open the windows in your property as regularly as possible throughout the day.
  • Ensure that your windows trickle vents are kept open.
  • Make sure any vents or air bricks in your property are not blocked.
  • Use any extractor fans in your property, particularly while cooking or using the bath/shower.
  • When possible, dry your clothes outside.
  • Any tumble dryers should be vented outside.
  • When having a bath or shower close the bathroom door and open the window to allow warm, moist air to escape.

The DIY solutions listed above can often be enough to alleviate condensation on walls, but if your condensation problems remain, or indeed get worse, it may be worth considering professional condensation treatment.
