Japanese Knotweed

Japanese knotweed is an invasive plant that can damage masonry and foundations

What is Japanese knotweed?

Despite being a rather good-looking plant, Japanese knotweed (Fallopia japonica) is not one you would want on your property. This brute of a plant grows to massive proportions and spreads rapidly. By early summer the bamboo-like stems can shoot to over 2.1m (7ft) high!

Japanese knotweed’s tenacious growth can see it push through the smallest nooks and crannies in concrete and masonry, and this can have a devastating effect on the structural integrity of buildings. This is why a great number of banks and building societies will refuse to lend on affected properties.

Japanese knotweed treatment requires a dedicated, professional programme as it is very hard to remove once it gets its roots in.
