How To Get Rid Of Mould On Shower Curtains
Mould stains on shower curtains can be cleaned with a weak solution of bleach and water. The best way to apply the bleach is by putting it in a spray bottle and spraying generously over the affected area.
If you’re looking for a more eco-friendly option and without the pungent fumes of bleach, don’t let the water out after having a bath (or if you’re having a shower in the bath, put the plug in whilst showering) and add some baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to the water. Soak the shower curtain in it over night and by the morning you should be able to wipe clean any remaining black mould.
HOW TO GET RID OF MOULD ON TILES
To get rid of mould on tiles; dip an old toothbrush or brillo pad in bleach and start scrubbing.
There are two eco-friendly options here. The first is use baking soda and water and apply generously to the tiles. Another method is to substitute the baking soda with vinegar. Just make sure that you wipe the tiles clean afterwards as they will be very slippery.
HOW TO GET RID OF MOULD IN SHOWER/BATH SEALANT
This one is trickier and if bleach doesn’t work then the best method is to completely replace the sealant. Apply a new low modulus silicone sealant that is specifically designed for baths and showers.
HOW TO GET RID OF MOULD ON WALLS AND CEILINGS
If you have black mould on your ceilings or walls you can buy black mould removal kits that are specifically designed to get rid of mould. These kits come with everything needed for the process and should only take around 30 minutes.
It is recommended that you repaint any affected areas and add an anti-mould additive into your paint to discourage mould from growing back. HOW TO GET RID OF MOULD ON CURTAINS AND BLINDS
More often than not, simply putting your curtains through the wash will get rid of all the black mould on them so it is recommended that you try this first. If the stains don’t come out after a wash there is an eco-friendly option available. Don’t dry them straight away. Instead, lay them flat so you can see the affected areas and make a paste out of lemon juice and salt. The lemon juice will act as an acid to break down the stain. Just make sure you test a small area first so the colour of the fabric isn’t affected. Allow the paste to set for half an hour and then scrape it away and wipe with water. You can then put them back through the wash.
Alternatively, powdered oxygen bleach (NOT chlorine bleach) can be used with few drops of ammonia and use the same process.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET RID OF MOULD?
We would always recommend our eco-friendly methods to get rid of mould over other methods but if these don’t work for you the next best thing is to use a pre-packaged kit that comes with everything needed to get rid of mould.
Remember, prevention is better than a cure. If you don’t follow our preventative tips then it is highly possible that the black mould will return in the same places as before.
